What this service actually does

A freight broker does not own the truck. It takes your load, finds a motor carrier to run it, and keeps the difference. That is useful when you have one container to move and no carrier relationships, and it is why a broker can usually quote you same-day. Two things to know before you call one. First, the broker is not the carrier, so ask which carrier will actually show up at the terminal and whether that carrier is licensed for the port you are using. Second, a broker must hold a $75,000 surety bond, which is what you claim against if the carrier is never paid and comes after you instead; ask for the bond and the MC number and check both. The companies below hold an FMCSA registration that records a broker role and self-reported intermodal or container freight on their most recent MCS-150 filing.
